Think Local Market is an award winning entrepreneurial initiative supplying online tools that support the development and success of local, independent business clusters. It is designed to support commerce, capacity and community development.

COMMERCE. By utilizing a shared presence on the web, provide a cost effect way to promote the business and increase store traffic from local community members and visitors while also generating online sales for merchants by providing access to a wider geograhpic marketplace.

CAPACITY. Provide a venue for local retailers to improve their online marketing skills by introducing them to web-based tools to promote their business. Supplement this with training and business development resources that help them achieve success.

COMMUNITY. A strong, local independent business cluster promotes economic diversity and are an important part of a community's distinctive character. More dollars are also retained in the local economy due to the tendency for local retailers to use local suppliers of goods & services.

Think Local Market was initiated by a consortium of municipalities in Northwestern Alberta. They included the County of Northern Lights in partnership with Northern Sunrise County, Mackenzie County, Smoky River Regional Economic Development, the Town of Peace River, Lac Cardinal Country and the Town of High Level.

In April 2012, the initiative was a winner of an Alex Metcalf Award from Economic Developers Alberta for excellence in economic development relating to the attraction.

In September 2012, ThinkLocalMarket.com was the recipient of the Western Economic Diversification Minister's Award for Excellence and Innovation.
